Cry, the clock said - Gary Numan - Farewell Concert - Wembley / London - Apr 1981 (youtube)

Cry, the clock said - Gary Numan - Farewell Concert - Wembley / London - Apr 1981 (youtube )

Following on from a couple of recent Gary Numan videos - just stumbled on this and enjoyed the video. The lighting makes it by emphasising the hands of the performer (Nash the Slash), who is playing what might be a violin or an electronic equivalent, while the face is left dimly lit so we can't really make it out - is the face masked or just badly disfigured (see here). A sad song about the end of a relationship, however the music I can't really describe as sad for some reason - at around the 2min 20sec mark, it appears to change to give some kind of a sense of awakening.

Cry, the clock said - Lyrics in Full

Why cry now
It's over
Feelings change

How are you
How am I
Cry, the clock said

Wembley Stadium -Hanger Lane / Ealing - You must be somewhere in London (Wed 02 Sep 2009)

4 years later and a little bit closer to Wembley Stadium. We were visiting Eileen on this particular day. We were supposed to get off at Ealing Broadway, but I got confused with the directions and we ended up at Hanger Lane - there are a number of Tube Stations in Ealing (see below). Did not matter as we had the opportunity to see this nice view of the Wembley Stadium. Next time in London, will walk out to Wembley from Hanger Lane and take this historic place in. From half a world a way, I have so many memories of the place, mainly as a wide-eyed child or teenager.

Ealing is served by Ealing Broadway station on the Great Western Main Line and the London Underground in London fare zone 3. It is also served by three other tube stations at North Ealing, South Ealing and Ealing Common. The Piccadilly line operates at North Ealing, Ealing Common and South Ealing; the Central line at Ealing Broadway; and the District line at Ealing Broadway and Ealing Common.

Under Pressure (Rehearsal) - Annie Lennox and David Bowie - (Mon 20 Apr 1992)

Under Pressure (Rehearsal) - Annie Lennox and David Bowie (Mon 20 Apr 1992)

Annie Lennox (Eurythmics) and David Bowie rehearse Under Pressure before The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.

Always wanted to learn how to play the Bass Guitar - this is definitely a classic song for budding bass players (see here), and for me (in particular), Ceremony by New Order and Afterglow by INXS. Did a lot of reading up on the Bass Guitar during Jenny's last stay in the Hospital. She encouraged me to give it a try. Maybe one day ..

Thought about this song last night when we talked about the "Wandering Mind" and "Pressure" during racing at our Outrigger Catch Up Dinner. Hopefully will find some time to put up some good links/quotes that I have on the topic.

Have to admit I have always had a bit of a school boy crush on Annie Lennox from her days in the late 70's band, The Tourists. In this tribute performance she looks remarkably like Natalie Portman in her role as Nina in Black Swan.

Under Pressure - Lyrics

Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you no man ask for
Under pressure - that burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on street

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming let me out
Pray tomorrow - gets me higher
Pressure on people - people on streets

Chippin' around - kick my brains around the floor
These are the days it never rains but it pours
People on streets - people on streets

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming let me out
Pray tomorrow - gets me higher
Pressure on people - people on streets

Turned away from it all like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don't work
Keep coming up with love but it's so slashed and torn

Why - why - why
Love

Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance
Why can't we give love
Cos love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the light
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure
Under pressure
Pressure

The Eye - You must be somewhere in London (Sun 28 Aug 2005)

Recently wrote about our trip to London in Aug 2005 where we spent an afternoon on the South Bank. The highlight was watching the sunset over London for The Eye and capturing this photo of Jenny.

Another highlight was seeing the new Wembley Stadium under construction on the horizon. As a kid I watched the Big Match and watching the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium was always something I looked forward to in early May of each year. We would stay up late in front of the heater and the game would start about 1am on Sunday morning. Was excited to watch my team, Westham United win the FA Cup in 1975 (more on Westham United later).

Here is a visual record of that afternoon on Sun 28 Aug 2005.

We can be Heroes - David Bowie (LiveAid 1985)

We can be Heroes - David Bowie and Friends (Live Aid - Wembley - 13 Jul 1985)

Remember watching this live and even remember Bowie's dedication to his Son and the Children of the World. This version of Heroes is very light and a lot of fun to watch and listen to - my favourite.
