On Anger - Rebecca Propst

Untitled - Busan (Fri 07 Sep 2012)

Rebecca Propst on Anger:

Anybody can become angry – that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way – that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy.
via Fear of Anger and Avoidance of Conflict by Rebecca Propst.

Have learnt much about anger recently. Thought anger was a futile emotion, but it much more complex than that, as the above quote indicates. If it's there, it's generally there for a reason. It needs to be acknowledged, addressed and can't be harboured for longer than necessary. It takes great strength and emotional intelligence to confront and deal with.

I've been angry when I should not have been, and not angry when I should have been. And there have been many times when I was entitled to be angry.

The difficult emotions and actions around anger are something I've tried to avoid for a lifetime. When it was unavoidable, it usually resulted in a pent up and regretable response. So now knowing a little more helps. As I was told recently:

Know more, Do more, Be more

On Passion - Spencer Lum (Wed 30 Jan 2013)

Laser Man - Busan / South Korea (Sun 09 Sep 2012)

Spencer Lum (*) writes insightfully on Passion (*), Purpose (*) and Belief (*):
The trick isn’t finding passion. It’s harnessing it. [..]

Things like passion (*), purpose (*) and belief (*) are great and wonderful things.

But they’re not guides. They are raw fuel.

Unprocessed and unrefined, they won’t take you where you need to go.

Fully utilized, they are unstoppable.

But you can’t just throw more passion at a problem.

The goal isn’t to break through walls. It’s to go around them.

Passion fuels progress. But progress fuels passion. [..]

Find a way to do what you do the best you can do it, and be sure to make yourself useful (*).
via The problem with passion (*) by Spencer Lum (*).

Spencer (*) at his passionate best. Onwards and forward.

One of my better intersection photos, I should think.

On Photography - Joel Meyerowitz - Time Lightbox (Fri 02 Nov 2012)

On Approach to Busan [1] (Tue 04 Sep 2012)

From Taking His Time: A Look Back at 50 Years of Joel Meyerowitz’s Photographs, (*) Nate Rawlings (*) writes about Joel Meyerowitz (*):
When he is shooting on the street, there isn’t much time to contemplate each moment.
"Photography takes place in a fraction of a second"
Meyerowitz says.
"There isn't a lot of time to think about things. You have to hone your instinct. You learn to hone that skill and timing so you’re in the right place at the right time."
Although he has made images that have moved audiences for decades, that has never been his true motivation.
"I'm not out there to make another ‘great picture,"
he says.
I’m really out there to feel what it feels like to be alive and conscious in that moment. In a sense, the record of my photographs is a record of moments of consciousness and awareness that have come to me in my life"
[1] The light was just beautiful as the sun rose on our landing approach to Busan. Often just photograph a scene because of the good nature of the light. For me the scene has extra meaning as it represents the beginning of a long, challenging and, ultimately, rewarding trip to Busan, South Korea.
