I have literally no idea who any of the people (*) in these pictures are, yet I am interested in each and every one of them. [..]

So then, let’s appreciate (*). To appreciate (*) can mean all kinds of things. In photography, it means to become aware of a moment that might signify something to be appreciated (*), to then capture it as a photograph so that it can be looked at later.

Street Painting - Amsterdam (Tue 20 Aug 2013)

Street Painting - Amsterdam (Tue 20 Aug 2013)

Just took a random look through some of the photos from the trip (*) that I uploaded to my iPad while on the road.

I remember this moment and time, and it caught my eye just now skimming throughout the photos. I like it as there is a lot going on in quiet way, and in some ways reminds me of the time here (*) two years earlier in New York City.

Played around with it in Snapseed and came up with the following details (I like to crop - it is fun to see what is in a photo). Here they are:

You must master (*) your craft and then put it aside and concentrate (*) on the more difficult aspect of the work.
  • What is it that you want to do (*) with that craft?

On Staying Excited - Kirk Tuck (Wed 13 Nov 2013)

Rowers (Detail) - Langelinie / Copenhagen (Fri 23 Aug 2013)

Kirk Tuck (*) writes On Staying Interested (*):
I'm happy that I'm still excited about hitting the water on a cold day and pounding out the yards. You'd think that after over fifty years of swimming up and down various pools and watching the black line on the bottom one would get bored but every time in the pool is exciting and fun for me. It's active meditation (*), it's competition (*) and it's concentration (*). Lots of good stuff for your body and brain to do before that first cup of coffee...

Untitled - Lisbon (Wed 14 Aug 2013)

Seth Godin (*) writes On being Afraid (*):
The [..] lie is that we're not afraid.

We're afraid.

Afraid to lead, to make a ruckus, to convene. Afraid to be vulnerable, to be called out, to be seen as a fraud.

The connection economy isn't based on steel or rails or buildings [or any relationship, really]. It's built on trust (*) and hope (*) and passion (*).

The future (*) belongs to those that care and those that believe (*).

Seth Godin (*) writes On Change (*):
To make a change (*) happen.

 [..]

Change (*), of course, opens doors (*), it creates possibilities (*) and it's fraught with danger (*) and apparent risk (*).

Much easier to deny this than it is to embrace (*) it. [..]

But you won't. Because the change (*) matters.

just because you have looked at something doesn’t mean that you have seen it. Just because something is available instantly to vision (*) does not mean that it is available instantly to consciousness. Or, in slightly more general terms: access is not synonymous with learning. On the Magic of Photography - Blake Andrews (Sat 02 Nov 2013)

Street Portrait - Barcelona (Tue 06 Aug 2013)

Blake Andrews (*) writes about the magic feelings we get from one shot at a time Photography (*):
But the photos I get with this process feel like mine. When I do catch that [..] right moment, or some other confluence (*) of events just on the cusp of existence, it feels like magic (*). Like, how did that happen? How did I come to own that?
He saves the best to last:
The irony is that I feel like a conduit for some greater serendipity (*). Maybe that's what some of the more process-oriented photographers are looking for too. [..] it feels like something important happened. OK, it's just one little cosmic accident but it feels like something important. Humanity in a nutshell.
