Framed - Castlereagh St / Sydney (Fri 07 Dec 2012)

Framed - Castlereagh St / Sydney (Fri 07 Dec 2012)

Have a few shots of this scene from another day. The graffiti tags are like a kind of colorful calligraphy with the grey painted doors providing the canvas. Did not have my S95 today so the iPhone was called upon for the photo above.

Coffee, Tea and Me - Redfern St / Redfern (Fri 13 Jul 2012)

Coffee, Tea and Me (*) - Redfern St / Redfern (Fri 13 Jul 2012)

The soft mid-winter midday light creates an even exposure across the areas in direct sunlight and allows some detail in the shadows to come out. I think the top photo is stronger because of the silhouetted figure and his mobile phone to his ear. It compliments the girl on the left looking at her mobile's screen.

Alice in Wonderland - Central Park / New York (Apr 1994/Aug 2011)

Alice in Wonderland - Central Park / New York (Apr 1994)

The above was taken on a disposable panorama format (*) 35mm Kodak camera on my last trip to New York way back in 1994.

Made sure to photograph 'Alice' on my next trip to New York, 17 years later using my little Canon S95 digital camera. Who would have thought 17 years ago that cameras would record photographs in bits and bytes and stored electronically, rather than film.

Alice in Wonderland - Central Park / New York (Mon 15 Aug 2011)

Lots of things have changed in New York and our lives, but some things will always remain the same. These two photos taken 17 years apart are proof of this for sure.

I wonder what future holds for us, particularly with regard to technology. I remember reading a computer magazine on my return flight back to Sydney in 1994, where I read for the first time about and Internet web browser called Mosaic (*), Netscape's predecessor. At the time I was a member of Compuserve, but had never ventured onto the Internet and the world wide web.

I hope it is not another 17 years before I get back New York.

My Mom Totally Rocks - Green - 5th Ave - New York (Sat 13 Aug 2011)

Love the way the long shadows (*) run up 5th Ave (*) and split the scene this time of day. The S95 does a nice job of capturing the range of light and shadow. It is fantastic camera for travel.

Picasa Contact Sheets (6 of 6) - East Village / Brooklyn (Wed 17 Aug 2011)

187 Photos - all in an afternoons wanderings.

Contact Sheets of the photos I took on the afternoon of Wed 17 Aug 2011.

Later that evening after walking across the Brooklyn Bridge (*) for the second time, I remember sitting on a train on the subway on my way from the Bridge to 80th Street on the west side of Central Park. I just sat quietly on my seat and decided to review my photos on the back of the camera in slideshow mode. I was tired from a long day wandering around and I went into a daze and a kind of trance as the subway stations passed by and the photos scrolled by on the rear screen on the back of my little Canon S95.

At one of the subway stops well up the line, the young lady sitting next to me, as she got up to exit the train, touched me on the forearm and said they are really nice photos. I was touched (*) by the compliment and said thanks. Such a small gesture from a stranger so far away from home - put a smile on my face and inflated my confidence (*). Probably one of the nicest moments on the whole trip.

Had the pleasure of sharing lunch with Charlotte, a paddling buddy and fellow Blogger known as LotttieP.

Charlotte - Sydney Mint Cafe (Fri 25 Mar 2011)

Charlotte has three active blogs:A brief skim through her blogs and you will quickly see that she is an amazingly talented writer and photographer.

Charlotte has inspired and encouraged me with my own humble efforts here on eljeiffel.

Charlotte has a great knowledge of the Arts and Fashion, shoes being an admitted obsession. I will always remember the beautiful red shoes she wore on the sandy shores of the Hawkesbury River at Windsor as we rigged our OC6 for the 2010 Hawkesbury Canoe Classic.

I have often sought advice from Charlotte and she has always responded with much generosity to my naive questions and has knowingly and unknowingly contributed to many of my posts here.

Thank you Charlotte.

Sign Sign everywhere a sign - Wilson Street / Newtown (Thu 24 Feb 2011)

Sign Sign Everywhere a Sign - Wilson Street / Newtown (Thu 24 Feb 2011)

Just playing around with my new camera.

Reminded of the song Signs by Five Man Electrical Band.

Here are the lyrics:

V1
And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply
So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said you look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do
So I took off my hat I said imagine that, huh, me working for you
woah!

Chorus:

Sign Sign everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign

V2
And the sign said anybody caught trespassing would be shot on sight
So I jumped on the fence and yelled at the house, Hey! what gives you the right
To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep mother nature in
If God was here, he'd tell you to your face, man you're some kinda sinner

Repeat Chorus:

Bridge:

Now, hey you Mister! can't you read, you got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat
You can't even watch, no you can't eat, you ain't suppose to be here
Sign said you got to have a membership card to get inside Uh!

V3
And the sign said everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all,
I didn't have a penny to pay, so I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign
I said thank you Lord for thinking about me, I'm alive and doing fine

Repeat Chorus
Repeat Chorus

PACT - Erskineville Road / Redfern (Thu 24 Feb 2011)

PACT - Erskineville Road / Redfern (Thu 24 Feb 2011)

As promised, the above is the first photo from my new S95 camera. A great little camera and one that I had always hoped Canon would release. Very similar to the G10 but much smaller physically. On top of that it has RAW file support.

Evict - PACT - Railway Parade / Erskineville (31 Jul 2005)

Evict - PACT - Railway Parade / Erskineville (31 Jul 2005)

Mentioned in a recent post (Sun 20 Feb 2011) that I have often photographed this Roller Door of PACT. Typically, I use this scene to take the first photo of a new digital camera.

The above photo was one of the first photographs I took with a new Canon Powershot Pro1. It was late in the afternoon and I liked the long shadow (see here specifically) of the power pole behind and to my right. I would use this camera for all my Europe 2005 photos. It was a beautiful camera and it failed on me when we did our last walk on the main range with Jenny on the 01 Jan 2009.

Today I bought a Powershot S95 and this Roller Door was the first photo I took with it. I am a creature of habit for sure. Once I get it off the camera I will post it here.
