On Talent and Drive - HONY (Wed 29 Jan 2014)

Untitled - Hong Kong Harbour / Photo Vivienne Bustos (Jul 2012)

Some words of wisdom from an actor On Talent (*) and Drive (*):
you reach a point where talent (*) isn’t enough to compete. Because as you progress (*), you’re eventually going to run up against people who are both talented and driven (*).
via I’m an actor.""How has being an actor differed from your... (*) by Humans of New York (*).

Have had a break and the drive is back, though I'm not sure the talent was ever really there. Great photo Vivienne.

Did not quite turn out how I would have liked, but I just wanted to capture the beautiful shaded blue, no matter the composition.

The bike was the delivery bike for the Restaurant which we ate at for lunch. I took the photo of it before we entered the Restaurant.

Very nice place. The red and green coloured seats are what convinced us to give it a go - obviously a great reason to chose a place to eat at, particularly in unfamiliar territory. Jo kindly agreed to eating here and we were not disappointed. It was just what we were looking for - that being local food, eaten by the locals and well off the tourist track. Like most places we ate at no one could speak english and a menu with pictures was used to indicate our choices.

As we ate our meals, the delivery guy left with a plastic bag of takeaway boxes. He returned a few minutes later with the plastic bag still full and there was much laughter amongst the staff. There did not seem to be too much concern for the delivery and it looked unlikelly the order would be delivered.

We could not quite work out why and what was happening, When we left, we saw the bike again and it had a flat back tyre - this was obviously the source of the laughter. No doubt a quick trip to the bike repair guy (*) would get the show back on the road.

There is always a reason for everything. As my paddling buddy, Eugene (*), once said:
Everything happens for a reason.
Sometimes it just takes a bit of time to work it out, if you keep your eyes open.

A delivery point to a construction site. It had just been washed down and I knew the S10 would capture the saturated colours nicely.

Tree - Kowloon Cricket Club Park / Kowloon (Thu 12 Jul 2012)

What's a trip without a photo of a tree.

Just stumbled across this park on the edge of the cricket field. Sat here under the cooling canopy of the trees for quite while. A beautiful quiet place to relax for a moment, yet only a block off the ever busy Nathan Road.

On Thanks: A Reward for the Experience - Drew Ginn (Wed 25 Jul 2012)

Boat - Portland Street / Mong Kok / Hong Kong (Mon 09 Jul 2012)

Two days before the London Olympics start, Drew Ginn (*) writes some thank you's. He notes (*):
thanks should not come because of a result or particular place it comes as a reward for the experience
Well said Drew and obviously many thanks to you for sharing your experiences and knowledge so openly and articulately. There is a great book in the making from you blogging over the last 5 years, of which I have been there since April 2007 (wow, it has been that long).

All that is left now is the final preparation (*) and then the racing. As one my own coaches does not believe in the the phrase Good Luck, I will leave you with this (*) from Super Coach Vern Gambetta (*):
[..] you have done the preparation [..] you are in control and you have given yourself a chance. [..] it is not the hand of fate that will touch you rather it is your fate that is in your hands.
Still, I can't help myself, by saying all the best and good luck.

The G10 did a great job to capture the range of light in this one.

We ate at the Happy Restaurant that night (the sign can just be seen). It's speciality was beef where nothing is wasted.

Barriers - Lam - Mong Kok / Hong Kong (Mon 09 Jul 2012)

This photo has surprised me after printing on an A3 sheet of paper. It has everything I like in a photo - colour, shadows, lines and an interesting lighting effect. In the late afternoon sun, the print has an amazing luminous about it that I have rarely seen in my photos.
