Was drawn to the long shadows of the fire stairs on the wall. Worked the corner pretty hard for a few minutes trying to capture something interesting on my tiny Canon S95.

Colour, clarity, form and the delicate detail of the windows and fire stairs (particularly) - that's what I like about this photo.

The shadows from the fire stairs always caught my attention in New York. Not used to seeing such long shadows in the middle part of the day. Being so far away from the equator compared to Sydney no doubt explains it all. Just like the colour and composition of the buildings in the background and busy road in the foreground. A little bit of blue sky seems to be the little element that makes the photo really work for me. Always take lots of photos like this when traveling - case in point is here (shown below) ..

Happened to quick to get everything right. Love the shadows of the fire stairs. One year ago today.
