Everybody Needs Love - Drive-By Truckers - David Letterman Show - 21 Jun 2011 (youtube)

Everybody Needs Love - Drive-By Truckers - David Letterman Show - 21 Jun 2011 (youtube)

Back to Kirrawee this week and I have a Television, PVR, Heater and a nice lounge to lay on now. Getting back late each night because of all the training and finding myself falling asleep in front of the Heater and TV. Woke up near the end of The Late Show with David Letterman to this song. Dave liked it that much (as I did - it woke me up nicely) and asked the Guys to play it again after telling a great story - He drove to Kansas City with Song on repeat.

Everybody Needs Love Lyrics

The moonbeams we can dream on
And the working day is done
And there's stars we can wish upon
At the setting of the sun

The sunsets we can cry over
Put our troubles on the hunt
But more than all these miracles above
Good people, we got love

Everybody needs love, love, love
Everybody needs love, love, love, love
Everybody needs love, love, love
Just like they need the sun and moon, and stars up above

And nobody ever found happiness
Living their lives all alone
I used to go around saying I didn't need nobody
To be happy and alone

And one sad day I found myself in trouble
Way down without a friend
Along came the love of a real good woman
Said she'll love me 'til the end

Everybody needs love, love, love
Everybody needs love, love, love, love
Everybody needs love, love, love
Just like they need the sun and moon, and stars up above, mmm

Everybody needs love, love, love
Everybody needs love, love, love, love
Everybody needs love, love, love
Just like they need the sun and moon, and stars up above

Everybody needs love, love, love
Everybody needs love, love, love, love
Everybody needs love, love, love
Just like they need the sun and moon, and stars up above
They need love

Everybody, everybody, everybody needs love
Everybody needs love, love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love

Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love

As Jeff Fenech once said I love youse all.

Most memorable post-match comments - The Age (09 Oct 2005) ..

Jeff Fenech: [..] Multiple world champion Jeff Fenech was tough, talented and wildly popular. So much so that before his 1987 title fight against Thailand’s Samart Payakarun, Hawke rang to wish him good luck. Perhaps he also offered some tips in the art of memorable speech making, because it was after beating Payakarun into a bloody pulp that Fenech first issued his trademark "I love youse all", following up with the equally catchy: "With 12,000 of the most beautifullest people in the world cheering me on, it’s hard to feel pain." Another Love - Tom Odell / Letterman Live (Wed 01 May 2013)

Another Love (*) by Tom O'Dell (*) - YouTube (*) - Letterman Live / NYC (Wed 01 May 2013)

Found it (*) and best of all a Letterman Live version.

Another Love (*) by Tom O'Dell (*)

I wanna take you somewhere so you know I care
But it's so cold and I don't know where
I brought you daffodils in a pretty string
But they won't flower like they did last spring

And I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright
I'm just so tired to share my nights
I wanna cry and I wanna love
But all my tears have been used up

On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up

And if somebody hurts you, I wanna fight
But my hands been broken, one too many times
So I'll use my voice, I'll be so f'ing rude
Words they always win, but I know I'll lose

And I'd sing a song, that'd be just ours
But I sang 'em all to another heart
And I wanna cry I wanna learn to love
But all my tears have been used up

On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up

I wanna sing a song, that'd be just ours
But I sang 'em all to another heart
And I wanna cry, I wanna fall in love
But all my tears have been used up

On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up

Need Your Love - Temper Trap / Studio Session / YouTube

Need Your Love (*) - Temper Trap (*) (Fri 27 Apr 2012)

Heard this recently a couple of times on the car radio traveling to training sessions. Been a while since I have heard something new that I have liked. The start creates a sense of anticipation and the song has an urgency about it. A couple of the lyrics that appealed (and I used to search for the song online) are bolded. Picked this video as I appreciate watching musicians performing.

Need Your Love Lyrics

The road is pulling me into her open where
And for a moment I escape and I forget
The silhouettes behind the dust clouds call me friend
But even fools know here they’re far a few between
She has abandoned me on highways and desert plates
Of lonely creatures singing for the summer rain
And at the end of all your knees fall down to me
Yeah it’s something in you always ask for someone real

Oh I need your love, I need your love,
I need you now, I need you
Oh I need your love, I need your love,
I need you now, I need you

She is my salvation in the dark
But at night with lips of honey calls the devil’s heart
And I am a war of flesh and heart that’s left undone
Between the person that I was and have become

Oh I need your love, I need your love,
I need you now, I need you
Oh I need your love, I need your love,
I need you now, I need you
I need your love

Oh I need your love, I need your love,
I need you now, I need you
Oh I need your love, I need your love,
I need you now, I need you

There’s no resting in my heart
There’s no resting in my heart
There’s no resting now

Not Enough and Jump (encore) - Van Halen - David Letterman - 1995 (youtube)

Not Enough (more) and Jump (encore) - Van Halen - David Letterman Show 1995 (youtube)

Always try to find a Letterman live performance whenever I put a music video here. Was hoping to find Jump (heard it on the radio yesterday for the time in many years) but ended up with this beautiful song, Not Enough. And believe it or not, there is small encore for the last 50 seconds where they play Jump.

Not Enough Lyrics

To love somebody naturally
To love somebody faithfully
To love somebody equally
Is not enough, it's not enough
It's not enough

To love somebody secretly (And never touch)
To love somebody honestly (And always trust)
To love somebody tenderly
The tender touch is not enough
It's not enough

Love hurts you sometimes
It's not so easy to find, no
Searchin' everywhere, you turn and swear (Ahh-ahh-ahh)
It's always been there

To love somebody foolishly
(Can happen once)
To love somebody hopelessly
(It hurts so much)
To love somebody equally
Is not enough, it's not enough
It's not enough

Love takes a little time
It's not so easy to find, no, no
Searchin' everywhere, you turn and swear
It's always been there

(Guitar Solo)
Standin' there....

Oh!

And if it don't come easily
One thing you must believe
You can always have trust in me
'Cause my heart will always be yours honestly

Yeah! Love hurts you sometimes
Not so easy to find, no-oh
Searchin' everywhere, you turn and swear (Ahh-ahh-ahh)
It's always been there, standin' there
Love hurts you sometimes
It's not yours, it's not mine, no-oh
Love is only to share
You turn and swear (Ahh-ahh-ahh) it's everywhere
Standin' there (Ahh-ahh)
'Cause it's always been there

Let Her Go - Passenger (YouTube)

Let Her Go / Passenger - YouTube (*)

Let Her Go (*) Lyrics - Passenger (*):

Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go

And you let her go

Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you'll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast

You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you'll understand why
Everything you touch, surely dies

But you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go

Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
'Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast

Well you see her when you fall asleep
But never to touch and never to keep
'Cause you loved her too much and you dive too deep

Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go

And you let her go
Oh oh oh no
And you let her go
Oh oh oh no
Well you let her go

'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go

'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go

And you let her go

On Photography - I love to make portraits - Kirk Tuck (Fri 07 Dec 2012)

Grandpa (Eric) [1] - John Sharman (*) Gallery / Mogo (Sun 07 Dec 2003)

Kirk Tuck (*) writes about the beauty the wonderful relationship he has with photography in (*):
I love to make portraits.

I love that not all of my subjects are required to smile.

I love that we can spend time talking about life while we're making portraits.

I love to work in black and white but I don't fear color.

I love light that can be both dramatic and flattering.

I love the contrast of dark shirts against light skin.

I love longish lenses and continuous lights.

I love going back and looking at old contact sheets to look at the "paths" not taken and then re-scanning and reprinting to see if my tastes have grown or changed since we last peeked into the contact sheets and made our choices.
Another amazing piece of writing about photography by a professional photographer. Got to love that. Thanks Kirk.

[1] Random Recollection - This is a photo of my Grandfather (my Father's Father). My brother, along with my Aunt took him on a drive and at my Aunt's suggestion we ended up at John Sharman's Art Gallery. My Aunt knows him well and she has a few of his paintings. John had also made some paintings from the cliff on the edge of my Grandfathers property at Malua Bay. One of the paintings is the unframed painting behind my Grandfather. This is a nice reminder of my childhood days spend at Malua Bay with my Grandparents.

I have a few more portraits from that day which I will publish here at some stage.

And love dares you to change our way of/Caring about ourselves - King Street / Newtown (Sun 17 Apr 2011)

Why can't we give love
Cos love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the light
And love dares you to change our way of

Under Pressure - Annie Lennox and David Bowie - Wembley Stadium (Mon 20 Apr 1992)

Under Pressure - Annie Lennox and David Bowie - The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert - Wembley Stadium (Mon 20 Apr 1992 - youtube)

Thought about this song last night when we talked about the "Wandering Mind" and "Pressure" during racing at our Outrigger Catch Up Dinner. Hopefully will find some time to put up some good links/quotes that I have on the topic.

Have to admit I have always had a bit of a school boy crush on Annie Lennox from her days in the late 70's band, The Tourists. In this tribute performance she looks remarkably like Natalie Portman in her role as Nina in Black Swan.

Under Pressure - Lyrics

Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you no man ask for
Under pressure - that burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on street

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming let me out
Pray tomorrow - gets me higher
Pressure on people - people on streets

Chippin' around - kick my brains around the floor
These are the days it never rains but it pours
People on streets - people on streets

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming let me out
Pray tomorrow - gets me higher
Pressure on people - people on streets

Turned away from it all like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don't work
Keep coming up with love but it's so slashed and torn

Why - why - why
Love

Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance
Why can't we give love
Cos love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the light
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure
Under pressure
Pressure

On Love - Iain S. Thomas

Untitled - Always photograph a Heart - Erskineville (Tue 27 Oct 2015)

Iain S. Thomas on Hope and Love:

I hope you love whenever you’re given the chance to love
via 300 Things [A Free Book by Iain S. Thomas].

For some it takes courage to fall in love. A Heart is exposed and trusted to another and the world. For others it is the easiest thing in the world. Some are better at finding it than others. I hope you have the courage to fall in love if and when the chance arises.

I have learned (by unknown)

I found the following piece while poking around Paulo Coelho's myspace page (he is on every social media site :-). Anyway, I like this and thought I would put it here to share as well as remember. What I have learned. There is much wisdom here:

I have learned (by author unknown) ..
  • I've learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.

  • I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people just don't care back;

  • I've learned that it takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

  • I've learned that it's not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts;

  • I've learned that you can get by on charm, for about fifteen minutes. After that, you'd better know something;

  • I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to the best others can do.

  • I've learned that you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

  • I've learned that it's taking me a long time to become the person that I want to be.

  • I've learned that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may b the last time you see them.

  • I've learned that you can keep going long after you can't.

  • I've learned that we are responsible for all we do, no matter how we feel.

  • I've learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

  • I've learned that no matter how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take it's place.

  • I've learned that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

  • I've learned that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

  • I've learned that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

  • I've learned that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're downhill are the ones to help you get back up.

  • I've learned that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

  • I've learned that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

  • I've learned that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to doesn't mean that they don't love you with all they have.

  • I've learned that maturity had more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

  • I've learned that your family won't always be there for you. It may seem funny, but people you aren't related to can take care of you and love you and teach you to trust people again. Families aren't biological.

  • I've learned that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

  • I've learned that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to forgive yourself.

  • I've learned that no matter how bad your heart is broken, the world doesn't stop for your grief.

  • I've learned that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

  • I've learned that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

  • I've learned that we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

  • I've learned that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

  • I've learned that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

  • I've learned that no matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get hurt and you will get hurt in the process.

  • I've learned that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.

  • I've learned that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.

  • I've learned that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

  • I've learned that the people you care about the most in life are taken from you too soon.

  • I've learned that it's hard to determine where to draw the line between being nice and not hurting people's feelings and standing up for what you believe.

You don't need to hear all the lyrics - Matt Berninger

Bloodbuzz Ohio (Live Directors Cut) - The National

You don't need to hear all the lyrics. In fact, the things you mishear are automatically like you are putting yourself into it. If you do that, you know, you think it says one thing. I think it is more engaging when you don't know. So that is how it is with me and music. Michael Stipe and his lyrics for so long were impressionistic and you could not hear what many of the words were and I think that was part of their power. Because they sucked you into it.

Matt Berninger (from The National - Bloodbuzz Ohio (Live Directors Cut))

Lyrics

Stand up straight at the foot of your love
I lift my shirt up
Stand up straight at the foot of your love
I lift my shirt up

I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees
I never married, but Ohio don't remember me

Lay my head on the hood of your car
I take it too far
Lay my head on the hood of your car
I take it too far

I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
I never thought about love when I thought about home
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
The floors are falling out from everybody I know

I'm on a blood buzz
Yes, I am
I'm on a blood...buzz
I'm on a blood buzz
God, I am
I'm on a blood...buzz

I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees
I never married, but Ohio don't remember me

I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
I never thought about love when I thought about home
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
The floors are falling out from everybody I know

I'm on a blood buzz
Yes, I am
I'm on a blood...buzz
I'm on a blood buzz
God, I am
I'm on a blood buzz.

So many great lines in this one:

  • I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees

  • I still owe money to the money to the money I owe

  • The floors are falling out from everybody I know

  • I never thought about love when I thought about home

On Dogs, Humans and Love - Richard Glover / Spectrum (Sat 12 Sep 2015)

Me and Teal - "Always be nice to a dog - always say hello to a dog" - Victor Hugo Market Restaurants / Toulouse / France (Sun 19 Sep 2009)

Richard Glover on Dogs, Humans and Love:

Worse things have happened to you and worse things have happened to me, but there's nothing like the death of a good dog to bring tears that are so hot and unrestrained. [..]

Every dog has lessons to teach. They are experts, of course, in demanding love. Humans, quite often, seem to doubt whether they are worthy of love, but dogs have no such uncertainties. "Look at me, just look at me," Darcy would say and, as my eyes met his, it was impossible not to submit to his unspoken demand.

"What a good dog. What a handsome dog. You are the best dog that ever was."

Then Darcy would return the favour, looking back as if to say: "What's next boss? You, after all, are my favourite human and I would follow you anywhere, through hot deserts or raging streams or high mountains."

This giving and receiving of love seems so right, so nourishing, one wonders whether it might have useful application outside the world of dogs. I'm guessing that's what Darcy was trying to teach us.

Something about our pets that makes us more Human. A touching article and it brought a tear to my eye for many reasons. Some obvious, but others less so ..

Joel Meyerowitz on Love and Loss:

All is being lost and yet there is nothing to do but love and care for them while watching the decline.
via All is being lost (Fri 26 Jun 2015) by Joel Meyerowitz.

Some might say I am stuck in past. But I don't really care about those thoughts. It's too hard to be anything other than who I was. These are my memories and they all I have now.

The power of photography to remember. They are all about the past from the very moment they are taken. So maybe all I am now is just a photography of love, loss and a life that was well lived.

More on Photography and Story Telling - Colin Pantall (Wed 15 Oct 2014)

Just Because I Really Love You (c) - Bologna (Fri 29 Aug 2014)

Colin Pantall (*) writes on Story Telling (*) and Photography (*) through the 2014 Booker Prize (*) awarded to Richard Flanagan (*) who:
worked for 12 years to tell this story. He told it as a love story because he says that while war stories dark about death, war also illuminates love (*) which is the greatest expression of hope (*). It's what we live (*) for.

And because it's what we live for, it's what we want to read about. Flanagan has every reason to be self-indulgent and wallow in his father's misery, but it seems like he's translating the story for readership. He's reaching out, he's editing (*), he's adapting (*), he's simplifying (*), he's making it a story that has been written for the reader. It's written on the reader's terms.
Colin questions and challenges Photographers (*)
I think an interesting question here is how often do photographers do this?; go out to the reader and sacrifice their self-indulgence to tell the story well? How often do they do this, how often don't they do this?

You can recognize a Warrior of the Light by the look in his eye.

You can recognize a Warrior of the Light by the look in his eye. Warriors of the Light are in the world, they form part of the world and they were sent into the world without saddlebags or sandals. They are often cowardly. They do not always act correctly.

Warriors of the Light are wounded by the most foolish things, they worry about trivialities, they believe themselves incapable of growing. Warriors of the Light sometimes believe themselves unworthy of any blessing or miracle.

Warriors of the Light often ask themselves what they are doing here. Often they find their lives meaningless.

That is why they are Warriors of Light. Because they fail. Because they ask questions. Because they keep looking for a meaning. And, in the end, they will find it.

Another passage from Paulo Coelho's - 'The Manual of the Warrior Light'. Just seems appropriate at the moment.
