Burano is a beautiful little island about 45 mins from Venice by a small Ferry. It felt so far from anywhere. We arrived late in the day and the shadows were long and the colours were striking. We bumped into Loretta here and she can seen on then left path with a couple of paddlers from Mt Warning. Loretta was the Australian Team Manager in 2007 and 2013.

The Museum had not changed too much in 23 years since I was last there on my first visit to Boston in Sep 1988. This is my favourite photo from both visits. I love the complexity, contrast, colour, light and mostly the shadows on the white concrete wall to the left.

The way I see has changed a lot since those early days when I travelled with Pentax K1000 that was a gift from my Family for my 21st birthday back in 1981. I still have the K1000 and it would be fun to get it out and shoot a few rolls of film to see what comes out.

Love my little Canon S95 (*) [the most recent version being the Canon S110 (*)] which I bought in Jan 2011. It has taken just over 22,000 photos and is still going strong. It (*) has been to New Zealand (*), USA 2011(*), Hong Kong 2012(*), Korea 2012(*) and  Japan 2012(*). It fits easily into my pocket and it goes everywhere with me. I have recently printed a few of the photos to 30x20 inch (*) and they are crystal clear.

There is perhaps an element of taking you to another place.

Thats just the way I respond to things.

Black and white has that physical effect on me.

On Colour, he explains:

Colour is something more vulgar because the colour is making the decisions, it feels vulgar, and that seems to me to be the difference.

Not exactly sure what he means by vulgar, but I think the above photos might help understand what he is trying to say, particularly about Black and White / Monochrome. I think colour creates different relationships in the photos where it is used effectively.

Love the way the spot lit Bamboo (* leave shadows are projected onto the passageway wall. These underexposed photos really does not do it justice.

The soft mid-winter midday light creates an even exposure across the areas in direct sunlight and allows some detail in the shadows to come out. I think the top photo is stronger because of the silhouetted figure and his mobile phone to his ear. It compliments the girl on the left looking at her mobile's screen.
