As the following posts will show, I was drawn to the graffiti on the temporary construction barrier fence.

Some times you get lucky.

In this photo I had noticed the fence graffiti and was just starting to move over to photograph it, when I saw the first man in the red shirt emerge from the subway. I quickly noticed the yellow and orange paint and then framed my shot.

Decided to wait just a moment to see if anything would become more obvious to my visual filter. In waiting for this brief moment I got lucky with another man with a red shirt emerging from the subway and a passerby with a red shoulder bag coming into frame. That was the moment to press the shutter. I did not notice the red flavoured drink of the passerby until reviewing the photo.

For me travel photography is not about landmarks but colour, combination and lines. This photo seems to make all the failed efforts worthwhile.

As mentioned before, we did spend a lot of time down in the Snowy Mountains. Our first winter trip was in June 2000 where we stayed at the Boonoona Ski Lodge. The Ski fields open for the season on the June Long Weekend and we were one of the first into the Lodge for the 2000 Winter. There was a fair bit of snow around and the Lodge Manager had told me about seeing the odd Snow Gum turn red during the cold winters. Was pleasantly surprised to stumble across one the next day as can seen above. The red colouring of the bark is the natural draw card to this photo, but for me I like the misty background and the complimenting lines of the branches of the tree in the background tree in the background - I really enjoy the central branch that spirals backwards from the tree.

When recently looking back through the photos from this trip I noticed the photo below where I am wearing a Red Jacket (even my chin, cheeks and nose were red from the cold) - a nice coincidence which I did not notice back then. Always fun looking back through old photos to see things you did not see back when they were taken.

Another photo below, this time of the background tree in the photo above. I would return Summer and Winter for a number years to photograph both these trees. Ultimately, in Jan 2005 I would capture this one using my Shen Hao Large Format Camera (HZX45-IIA), which is yet another Favourite Photo for another day.

These two just seemed to go together. Took a little while to make the Little Red Riding Hood connection (actually just thought of it just before this post). The wikipedia entry has very detailed listing of Little Red Riding Hood.

Taken during a post-HCC 2012 walk, that took me up Oxford Street, Victoria Street and finally William Street, back to where I started. This scene was just standing out in front me and I could not help but take a few shots with my iPhone, the only camera I had with me at the time.

Had to go to Double Bay recently. Caught the train to Edgecliff and walked down to Double Bay. Took a detour on the way there and back to photograph this well known piece of Street Art by Bruno Duto. Got lucky with random pedestrians, one in a red blouse and the other in a blue shirt, both colours which fit nicely with the subject.

Wendy Matthews typifies much of what people think of this Sydney Landmark ..

"Every time I come to the city I drive past her, see if she's changed. Sometimes she'll have a cat or be standing in snow. Though you never see her face, she's come to symbolise Sydney for me."

The man in the blue shirt in the second photo stopped to talk to me after he realized what I was doing. He told me that me that he had lived in the area all his life and that as far as he can remember, Bruno Dutot, comes back on the 1st Jan each year to touch the piece up for another year.

The bike was the delivery bike for the Restaurant which we ate at for lunch. I took the photo of it before we entered the Restaurant.

Very nice place. The red and green coloured seats are what convinced us to give it a go - obviously a great reason to chose a place to eat at, particularly in unfamiliar territory. Jo kindly agreed to eating here and we were not disappointed. It was just what we were looking for - that being local food, eaten by the locals and well off the tourist track. Like most places we ate at no one could speak english and a menu with pictures was used to indicate our choices.

As we ate our meals, the delivery guy left with a plastic bag of takeaway boxes. He returned a few minutes later with the plastic bag still full and there was much laughter amongst the staff. There did not seem to be too much concern for the delivery and it looked unlikelly the order would be delivered.

We could not quite work out why and what was happening, When we left, we saw the bike again and it had a flat back tyre - this was obviously the source of the laughter. No doubt a quick trip to the bike repair guy (*) would get the show back on the road.

There is always a reason for everything. As my paddling buddy, Eugene (*), once said:

Everything happens for a reason.

Sometimes it just takes a bit of time to work it out, if you keep your eyes open.

Have often photographed this roller door at the PACT Theatre which is just around the corner from where I stay at Alexandria. Drive past it most days. The building has recently been painted to this brown colour, after many years as a blue, with the roller door featuring many colours from a rainbow.

For this photo, the position of the late afternoon sun cast interesting shadows (I like shadows) on the wall and roller door. When I noticed the red haired lady running past, I waited until she was in the perfect position under the red A and in front of the shadow cast by the bricks on the right hand side of the roller door.

I find my inspiration (*) by looking for it. Anywhere.

I read constantly and this helps me develop images in my head. I constantly look at art (I am not married only to photography). I watch almost every movie that comes out. I am always searching for something to highten my sense of what is possible.

The other way I find inspiration (*) is through my work. Work begets work-an idea may come through experimenting with something and this diverges into something totally different.

Often my work starts out as an interest in texture, or how two materials work together.

My Mother bought a copy of one of Bruno's Ladies that was painted on a long thin piece of box cardboard. It hangs in her living room. She has had it a long time and bought it from him at a Paddington Street Market.

I like the way the shadows works in these photos as well as the detail in the rather abstract photo of #4.

She just stood out from the crowd and the other red handbag does not even compete.

Stepped sideways to the right just a little to get the orange and white safety pole across the intersection. Maybe it is a bit like this (*) or this (*) a couple of hours later. Definitely, one of my favourite photos from the trip - a very typical New York Street photo.

Just another intersection photo. Could say there are some Jeffrey Smart influences in seeing this photo. Was firstly, drawn in by the Red Car and Front Red Sign. Then was pleased to see the receding Red Signs as well as the Blue Signs. All came together nicely. The most complicated version of the colour theme photos I have posted so far.

Saw a movie (Incendies - smh / google) at the Dendy on Sunday and went for a wander around Newtown and Enmore afterwards. Lots of new stuff around. Liked this photo of nothing in particular, really. Been here before. Got lucky (happens a lot with my photography) with the lady with red and blue address passing by just as I took this photo.

Just another simple Intersection photo - liked the red and yellow combination which seemed to be a Swiss thing. The cracks in the road and tyre marks on the yellow crossings makes this one, for me at least.

Puts the Bill Collins and Hacksaw Man Stencils into some context of their surroundings. There were a few more stencils on the house as well as the outline of a human, which can be seen to the right of the yellow Door.

Got extra lucky with the Lady with the Red Top coming into view, just as I took the above photo.
