Flowers - Manuka / Canberra (Nov 2002)

Flowers - Manuka / Canberra (Nov 2002)

Some flower photos from Tim's backyard garden. The light was soft and even, and the mighty IXUS did another great job. The bokeh in macro mode is very nice for such a small and early generation digital camera. A few more photos follow ..

On Calculus - ImprovOmega / Slashdot (Fri 25 Apr 2014)

Flower - Jardim da Estrela (*) - Lisbon (Wed 14 Aug 2013)

ImprovOmega (*) writes On Calculus (*), and its elegance (*) and beauty (*):
The brilliance of calculus (*) is the usage of infinitely many infinitely small rectangular slices to nonetheless derive an exact measurement of the finite area under a curve.

At its core, calculus is the merging of the infinite and the finite. When you truly understand it, it is one of the most elegant (*) and beautiful (*) discoveries in human history.
via Ask Slashdot: Books for a Comp Sci Graduate Student? (*) by peetm (781139) (*).

Like this one. Reminds me of what I felt when I first learnt calculus in high school.

After 12 years or so of not reading Slashdot (*), I have started following again to keep up the latest in the nerdy tech world I have always lurked as a fringe-dweller (*).

Another Love - Tom Odell / Letterman Live (Wed 01 May 2013)

Another Love (*) by Tom O'Dell (*) - YouTube (*) - Letterman Live / NYC (Wed 01 May 2013)

Found it (*) and best of all a Letterman Live version.

Another Love (*) by Tom O'Dell (*)

I wanna take you somewhere so you know I care
But it's so cold and I don't know where
I brought you daffodils in a pretty string
But they won't flower like they did last spring

And I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright
I'm just so tired to share my nights
I wanna cry and I wanna love
But all my tears have been used up

On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up

And if somebody hurts you, I wanna fight
But my hands been broken, one too many times
So I'll use my voice, I'll be so f'ing rude
Words they always win, but I know I'll lose

And I'd sing a song, that'd be just ours
But I sang 'em all to another heart
And I wanna cry I wanna learn to love
But all my tears have been used up

On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up

I wanna sing a song, that'd be just ours
But I sang 'em all to another heart
And I wanna cry, I wanna fall in love
But all my tears have been used up

On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up

On Error Messages - Venkat / Ribbonfarm (Fri 19 Dec 2014)

Flower Detail - Monet's Garden / Giverny (Wed 17 Sep 2014)

Venkat (*) writes on Failure (*):
Even an unhelpful error message is better than nothing.
via Learning from Crashes (*) by Venkat (*).

I have seen this error message a few times recently:
Error: Unknown Error.
Probably the most unhelpful error message I have seen in all my time coding Python to an external third party API. At least you know you have an error, even if it is as far away from the root as it just about can be.

On Observervation - Humbled by Beauty - Streetshooter (Mon 11 Aug 2014)

Flower (*) - Madrid (Sun 11 Aug 2013)

Streetshooter (*) writes On being an Observer (*):
find the beauty (*) placed in the garden and nurtured (*) by a higher source (*), the same source (*) that nurtures (*) you, that gives life (*) to all beings. To me, when I see the garden that my wife Tanya works so diligently (*) to make fruitful and beautiful, I am humbled (*).
via August 11th, 2014 … Fuji X100s …Observations (*) by Streetshooter (*).

A beautiful observation.

On Failure - Venkat / Ribbonfarm (Fri 19 Dec 2014)

Flower Detail - Monet's Garden / Giverny (Wed 17 Sep 2014)

Venkat (*) writes on Failure (*):
You just have to have failed at a given level enough times to have become well-calibrated to the severity of your own responses, and effective at managing those responses. You are adapted to a domain at an advanced beginner level when you can keep trying indefinitely despite failing. You are at an intermediate level when you can look at failure data to learn, instead of being so traumatized you look away in aversion. You’re advanced when you begin failing in ways nobody has failed before.
